How heavy is the Volvo Penta MD2040?
The different models of the Volvo Penta MD2040 weigh between 199 kg (439 lbs) and 211 kg (465 lbs). The dry weight of the standard engine equipped with straight reverse gear (MS15L) is 199 kg (439 lbs). The dry weight of the standard engine equipped with angled reverse gear (MS15A) is 200 kg (441 lbs). When the engine is equipped with the sail drive option (130S), the dry weight is 211 kg (465 lbs). Lubricating oil, coolant and any alternator upgrades will add to this weight.
Design Features of the MD 2040 Engine
Engine and block
- Cylinder block and cylinder head manufactured from high grade cast iron. Crankcase features a rigid tunnel block design.
- Chrome molybdenum forged crankshaft, statically and dynamically balanced with integral counterweights.
- Pistons are cast from high silicon aluminum, are heat treated and fitted with two cast iron, chromium faced compression rings and a single oil ring.
- Replaceable, hardened valve seats
